Against the Wind is the eleventh studio album by American rock singer Bob Seger and his fourth with the Silver Bullet Band. It was released in February 1980. It is Seger's only number-one album to date, spending six weeks at the top of the Billboard Top LPs chart, knocking Pink Floyd's The Wall from the top spot. Against the Wind was an immediate commercial success, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart in its third week and remaining there for five weeks behind Pink Floyd's The Wall before. Against the Wind Originally Performed By Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band. Perhaps he had to, since Against the Wind arrived after three blockbuster albums and never-ending tours. Even so, this record winds up not feeling as immediate or soulful as its predecessors, especially since it begins with a tossed-off rocker called The Horizontal Bop, possibly his most careless tune since Noah. It's fun, but once it's done, the record really starts to kick into high gear with You'll Accomp'ny Me, a ballad the equal of anything on its two predecessors. Album 1980 10 Songs. A more polished affair than Night Moves or 'Live' Bullet, Against the Wind adds a little glitter to the bands otherwise dressed-down sound, whether its a touch of synthesizer on the ballads No Mans Land, Youll Accompny Me or innuendo on the rockers Her Strut, The Horizontal Bop . Not that the band lost their substance-just listen to the lament of the title track, where Seger tinkers with his favorite trope-nostalgia: Wish I didnt know now what I didnt know then. The 1980 release of Against The Wind proved the continued success that began with 1976's Night Moves for Bob Segar And The Silver Bullet Band. There is no mistaking the soulful grit that is the voice of Bob Segar or the precision and artistry shown by The Silver Bullet Band. The hook in the title track, I wish I didnt know now what I didn't know then draws in dreamer, drifter and nine to fiver alike and is a perfect example of turning a simple wish into an anthem for any generation. From the call of the saxophone, the soul touching piano and the flawless blending of backu.
